Matt Blackwell (PhD, June 2012) has been selected as this year's recipient of the GSAS Richard J. Herrnstein prize.

Friends of the late Richard Herrnstein, Edgar Pierce Professor of Biology, established a prize in his honor which is awarded annually to a Harvard graduate student for a completed dissertation in the natural or social sciences. The criteria for the award are "excellent scholarship, originality and breadth of thought, and a commitment to intellectual independence necessary to pursue a particular line of inquiry requiring perseverance and courage." The Herrnstein prize is awarded to Blackwell for his dissertation, "Essays in Political Methodology."
