American Politics

Hi! My name is Alex and I am a senior living in Mather House.  I am a Government Concentrator pursuing a secondary in Economics and a citation in Spanish.  My academic interests focus on American government, education policy, national security, and macro-economic policy.   I am actively involved in the Harvard Institute of Politics frequently attending fellow's study groups and I am currently Chair of the Harvard Public Opinion Project.  I am also involved with the International Relations Council serving as the Director of Crisis for Harvard Model United Nations and as a member of the Intercollegiate Model United Nations Team. Outside of Harvard, I served as the inagural chair of the Campaign for a Presidential Youth Council and was appointed by Secretary Clinton to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO.  I blog for the Huffington Post, founded the Youth Creating Action Network, and am an active tweeter (@amaliowirth).  I have also served on the Board of Directors of Youth Service America and the Forum for Youth Investment and on the youth councils of DoSomething.org, State Farm, and the Democratic National Committee.  I have had the opportunity to speak at the United Nations, the Clinton Global Initiative, the UNFPA Conference in Istanbul, and the National Education Association.  Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions about the Government Department or extra-curriculars!
