Manjari Chatterjee Miller
College Fellow
Manjari Chatterjee Miller will be a postdoctoral fellow at the China and the World Program, Princeton University, and an affiliate of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University in 2007-08. She is expected to receive her Ph.D. from Harvard University’s Department of Government in September 2007. Her research focuses on international relations (IR), foreign policy and security issues with an emphasis on East and South Asia. Her dissertation, Scars of Empire: Post-Imperial Ideology, Historical Memory and Foreign Policy Decision-Making, asserts that the transformative historical experience of imperialism and colonialism led ex-colonies to develop a “post-imperial ideology” (PII) which influences their foreign policy decisions today. Her dissertation connects the broader theoretical debates in security studies and IR with an in-depth study of historical legacy and memory in China and India, and analyzes its impact on past and contemporary foreign policy decision-making.
Her research has been supported by fellowships from the US Department of Education and the Fairbank Center and South Asia Initiative at Harvard University and most recently, by the United Nations Foundation.
Manjari holds an MSc in International Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK and a BA (Hons) in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, India.
