Graduate Placement Process

Notify Thom Wall, Graduate Program Administrator, that you intend to go on the job market. He will add you to the placement listserv.

Create a homepage.

Set Up a Dossier. Office of Career Services, 54 Dunster Street, 495-2787.

Subscribe to the APSA Personnel Newsletter for a monthly listing of job opportunities. If you do not already have an APSA membership, the Department will pay the cost of your APSA subscription for one year. Thom Wall also has the recent listings in his office, CGIS K151-C. Each placement candidate is eligible for the department’s job search grant. The department will reimburse all reasonable expenses relating to your job search, such as photocopying, postage, and any fees for ordering transcripts. You must submit the original receipts within 60 days of the expense.

September 2

“Elements of the Application and Creating a Dossier” with Professor Jeff Frieden
(3:00pm, K450)

September 3

“Navigating the Job Market” with Professors Jim Alt and Eric Nelson; and Robin Mount, Associate Director of GSAS career services. (12pm, K450)

October 1

“Preparing for the Campus Visit” with Professor Sunshine Hillygus (12pm, K450)

Please note that these titles refer only to the formal presentations by faculty members. Any questions and comments are welcome at all meetings. Lunch is provided.
