Biographical Note:
Maria Petrova is a PhD candidate in Political Economy and Government at Harvard University. Her areas of specialization are formal political theory, political economy, and comparative politics. She is particularly interested in political economy of mass media, the impact of political risk on economic development, and strategic models of voting behavior. Her dissertation entitled “Political Economy of Media Capture” analyzes the factors that influence the political bias of the news media in comparative framework. Her papers are forthcoming in the Journal of Public Economics and in a World Bank volume entitled “Media’s Influence on Public Policy”. She will be an Assistant Professor of Economics at New Economic School, Moscow, starting September, 2008.
