Comparative Politics with a Focus on Latin America

Madai Quispe headshot

I’m a fourth year comparativist studying the political economy of development strategies in Latin America. In my second year, I worked as the student coordinator of the Comparative Politics workshop and the Chair of the GSA’s International Students’ Committee. Those experiences allowed me to get to know other students (as well as professors), even though we were remote. I’m happy that in my third year, we had the chance to be back on campus, so I could TA in person.

I love teaching, mainly because my students were so engaged and reminded me of why I wanted to be a scholar in the first place. I received a Sheldon Traveling Fellowship to carry out my dissertation fieldwork in Latin America this year, so I’m in Santiago de Chile right now doing archival research. I’m looking forward to being back next year. In the meantime, I will enjoy this time to learn as much as possible, meet local scholars, make new friends, and eat delicious food.
