Feyaad Allie named CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar

We are pleased to announce that Assistant Professor Feyaad Allie has been named a 2025 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar. Allie joins an elite cohort of just 12 early-career researchers selected from a pool of 232 applicants worldwide for the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research’s (CIFAR) highly competitive program.

The CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars program brings together interdisciplinary “impact clusters” of talented scholars to collaborate on some of the world’s most pressing issues. Professor Allie, an expert in identity, inclusion, and democracy in South Asia (specifically India), will contribute to the “Boundaries, Membership, and Belonging” cluster, where he will continue exploring challenges and opportunities for sustaining liberal democracy.

With CIFAR’s support, Allie plans to deepen his research with new fieldwork, expanding from his current work on civil society and political parties to focus on the critical role of students and universities in shaping democracy, particularly in India.

We congratulate Professor Allie on this remarkable achievement and look forward to the innovative insights he will bring to the Department and the global scholarly community.
