We are excited to invite the Government Department community to join us for the Spring 2023 Sidney Verba lecture,“The Autocratic Middle Class: Before and After the Russian Invasion of Ukraine,” presented by Professor Bryn Rosenfeld. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, April 11 at 3:30 pm in CGIS S020 (Belfer Case Study Room).

Professor Rosenfeld is an Assistant Professor of Government at Cornell University. Her research interests include political behavior, with a special focus on regime preferences and voter behavior in nondemocratic systems. Her first book, The Autocratic Middle Class (Princeton University Press, 2020) explains how democratization is impeded by the middle class’s economic dependence on the state. She has received various awards for her scholarship, including the U.S. State Department’s Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards for her analysis of Russian public opinion. Professor Rosenfeld is also an editor at the Washington Post Monkey Cage, and a Principal Investigator of the 2021 Russian Election Study.
We look forward to seeing you there!
