Peer Concentration Counselor
Class of 2024 (Lowell House)

Hi everyone! My name is Alex Chan and I am a junior in Lowell House concentrating in Government with a citation in Chinese. I’m from New York, NY, but was born in and spent half of my life in Singapore. I am so excited to be one of your government PCCs this year!
My interests in Government include comparative politics, democratization, and authoritarianism. Growing up in different parts of the world sparked my curiosity to understand the factors influencing how societies function and are governed. Taking Gov 20 with Professor Levitsky further cemented my interest in government. Some of my other favorite classes in the department include Gov 1130: Democracy: Breakthroughs and Breakdowns with Professor Ziblatt, and my sophomore tutorial on technocracy and the politics of China.
Outside of class, I am involved in both the International Relations Council (IRC) and the Institute of Politics (IOP). At the IRC, I help to lead and run the HMUN conference, which is a 4-day model UN simulation for high school students. At the IOP, I am a member of the JFK Jr. Forum Committee. I love giving advice and mentoring people, so please feel free to reach out to chat about academic and extracurricular opportunities, study abroad, or about politics and the state of the world!
