Hunter is a PhD candidate in the Department of Government and a James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Ph.D. Scholar in Inequality and Wealth Concentration at the Harvard Kennedy School. She uses a variety of methods to study political behavior, African American politics, and the role of fiscal and social policy in shaping political outcomes. Her dissertation research looks at racial politics in American legislatures, with an emphasis on how racial group norms and networks shape politicians’ and bureaucrats’ behavior. She also has published and forthcoming work studying how voters react to social welfare policies. While at Harvard, Hunter has taught classes on race and ethnicity politics in the United States and political economy.
