Hi! My name is Neha Kalra, and I’m a senior in Leverett House joint concentrating in government and statistics, and I’m so excited to be a Government Peer Concentration Counselor for the 2025-2026 academic year! When I came to Harvard from Princeton, New Jersey back in 2022, I had no clue what I wanted to study. After much trial and error, I landed jointly in the Government Department, and I am so glad that I did!
Despite having little STEM experience before college, during my time at Harvard, I’ve discovered an interest in the intersection of data and social impact. I’ve found that there are so many ways to explore that subject, whether it be through pursuing quantitative social science research or learning about tech policy. Through Harvard, I’ve been able to pursue opportunities such as IOP Director’s internships related to law, data, and AI. I’ve also completed two other government/nonprofit internships specifically related to workers’ rights and gender equality.
Outside of the classroom and during the semester, I’m primarily involved in research and the performing arts (with the Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club) and have done a bunch of other extracurriculars related to journalism, advocacy, Model UN, consulting, and more. I’m happy to chat about any of these interests, past and present.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like any advice about choosing a plan of study, trying out a new subject, balancing coursework in disparate fields, navigating the summer internship process (in the public/nonprofit sector or elsewhere), or anything else at all. I’m really looking forward to meeting you!
