Peter A. Hall is Krupp Foundation Professor of European Studies and a resident faculty member of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard. He is a comparative political economist with wide-ranging interests in the relationship between politics and economics, issues of inequality, and the role of institutions and ideas in politics. His books include Governing the Economy (Oxford 1986), The Political Power of Economic Ideas (Princeton 1989), Varieties of Capitalism (Oxford 2001) edited with David Soskice as well as Successful Societies (Cambridge 2009) and Social Resilience in the Neoliberal Era (Cambridge 2013) edited with Michèle Lamont. Hall is the author of more than a hundred articles on European politics, comparative public policymaking, institutional analysis, and methods of political analysis. He serves on multiple editorial and advisory boards and has received many awards for his work. His current research focuses on the political response to economic challenges in the developed political economies since World War II and the economic and cultural roots of support for populism.
