Nick Melvoin, Class of 2007
Nick Melvoin is an educator, attorney, and organizer who was recently elected to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education. Nick represents LAUSD Board District 4, which includes the communities of Brentwood, Del Rey, East Hollywood, Encino, Hollywood, Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Playa Del Rey, Playa Vista, Tarzana, Topanga, Westchester, West Hollywood, Westwood, Woodland Hills & Venice. The largest district in the country governed by an elected board, LAUSD is responsible for educating nearly 700,000 kids and controls nearly 13 billion in taxpayer dollars. In addition to his work as a lawyer and organizer for local nonprofits, Nick has also recently served as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Loyola Marymount University, where he taught a course on Education Law. Nick’s path was inspired by his time teaching at an LAUSD middle school in Watts as part of Teach For America. His work on a landmark civil rights case led him to law school, where he spent time at the ACLU, the Department of Justice, and the Obama White House. Nick is also the Programming Director for Camp Harmony, a camp for homeless and underserved children in the Los Angeles community. He is a graduate of Harvard College, NYU School of Law (Root-Tilden-Kern Scholar), and Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education.
Gabe Gladstein, Class of 2017
Gabe Gladstein graduated Magna Cum Laude in Government (with focuses in the study of ethics in war and Chinese politics) from Harvard University in 2017, and in December of of 2018 graduated with a Master’s degree in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. Gabe currently works for an international education company, Crimson Education, as its Head of Service Development, strategizing and building new academic services that are delivered to students around the globe. He is the creator of Crimson’s flagship U.S. admissions program.
Gabe also works as an Associate for a boutique speechwriting firm in New York City, A.H. Levy & Co. His words have appeared in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and been delivered in the halls of the U.S. Congress, among other places. As a cadet in the Reserve Officer Training Corps, Gabe is currently training to be a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army; he will commission in August of 2019.
Gabe is currently living in Los Angeles, pursuing a career in pop music as a singer and songwriter.
William Eger, Class of 2012
I’m currently working for Boston Public Schools as a Strategic Projects Manager in our Finance Office where I work on our long term financial planning — that is, how do we both identify areas in which to spend less to put towards areas where we think we should spend more (I’m also currently a Broad Resident). Of late, that has included supporting the drafting of our long term financial plan and increase efficiencies in transportation (through initiatives like our transportation challenge). Before joining BPS, I worked for Parthenon in their education practice where I worked on a number of projects for school districts (including a memorable 10 month project for Detroit Public Schools), foundations, non-profits, state departments of education, and several for-profit education organizations. Prior to Parthenon, I was teaching high school math at a charter school in Philadelphia (with Teach for America). I began my career after high school (i.e. before college) with City Year Boston and I’m happy to be back in Boston!
